Andrew Nethsingha directed as his swansong a rip-roaring reading of Mahler’s Eighth, the “Symphony of a Thousand”. It the initial “Veni Creator”, taken at the speed of a Porsche, might as well have roared through megaphones, the Faustian second half was inspiration itself: Nethsingha and the orchestra delivered the goods handsomely. Adrian Thompson, Alan Opie and Judith Howarth were outstanding among a world-class line-up of soloists
