Giles Underwood studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he won prizes for English and Contemporary song and was generously supported by the Foyle Foundation. He studied then, as now, with Susan McCulloch. Recent engagements include; a recital of English Song with Julius Drake (2008 Temple Festival); a programme Swedish and English song with Martin Sturfält (Oxford Lieder Festival); a tour of Libya, Cyprus and China with AAM; a performance of Dido at the Wigmore Hall; the premiere of A Shakespeare Requiem by Judith Bingham alongside Mary Plazas and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. He made his Royal Albert Hall debut last year singing Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols, and Haydn's Creation with the Philharmonia conducted by Stephen Cleobury. Plans for 2009 include a tour with AAM singing Messiah, Dido and Aeneas in Libya, Aeneas in a new production of Dido at the Bodensee Festival in Germany, and recitals in Sweden and China.
