The Three Choirs Festival is pleased to announce that BBC Radio 3 will be coming to this year's Festival to record two concerts for broadcast in the autumn. The Thursday evening concert of Poulenc - Gloria, McCabe - Songs of the Garden (newly commissioned orchestral version - World Premiere), Strauss - Four Last Songs (Sally Matthews), and Rachel Podger's late night solo Bach recital. These concerts will be broadcast in late September on Radio 3's flagship 'Performance on 3' programme.
And, of course, Radio 3 Choral Evensong will be back this year, recording the service on Monday, for broadcast on Wednesday at 4pm and Sunday at 4pm. The Three Cathedral Choirs, conducted by Geraint Bowen, will be singing the canticles by William Mathias, written for Jesus College, Cambridge and Mendelssohn's Warum toben die Heiden.
It may also be of interest that our composer-in-residence, John McCabe is this week's 'composer of the week' on Radio 3, broadcast from 12-1pm every weekday, and available to listen again via the BBC iPlayer for a week after broadcasts. A detailed and interesting way to get to know the man and his music in advance of his residency at this year's Festival.
