In order to ensure the development of young singers and to ensure the continuance of the British Choral tradition, the idea of the Three Choirs Festival Youth Choir has been conceived for singers aged between 16 and 25. It will draw its main membership from the area between Bristol and Birmingham.
For nearly three hundred years the Cathedral cities of Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester have taken it in turns to host an annual ‘music meeting' which is now recognised as one of the world's greatest classical choral music Festivals. The original performers were the three Cathedral Choirs, but over the years the style of the Festival has changed and the large-scale choral repertoire at today's concerts is now performed by the Three Choirs Festival Chorus with the daily services sung by the Cathedral Choirs. This heritage has long established the Festival as a firm fixture in the British music calendar and a must-visit for lovers of the great choral works from across Britain, Europe, America and Australasia.
Although the Festival has a rich musical heritage, it is a modern and accessible festival experience. While classical and choral music can potentially be perceived as an art form that can only be enjoyed by certain sectors of society, we, at the Three Choirs Festival, believe that it can be enjoyed by all. Three Choirs Festival performances are enjoyed by Festival attendees of all ages. We encourage concert attendees to take great joy and delight from our performances, and to display that delight exuberantly! Bring your friends along to see this new choir perform wonderful music in outstanding venues.
If you thought you knew what the Three Choirs experience was like and believed that it wasn't for you, we urge you to think again!
