General Ticketing Help

In order to buy tickets using our online interface, either click on the 'Book Tickets' link in the top left hand corner of the screen, or find the event for which you wish to buy tickets using the menu on the right hand side of the main Gloucester pages, and the click on the 'Buy Tickets' button. This will open up the Ticketing interface, which expands down from the top of the page, allowing you to still view the page you were originally on.

The Ticketing Interface is split into 4 sections:

4. Confirm your selection

Ivor Gurney The Trumpet

This will be the first time any of Gurney’s music has been performed as part of an evening performance at a Three Choirs Festival, on a stage upon which he himself had such success as a boy treble when he appeared alongside Madame Albani as the Youth in Mendelssohn's Elijah. The Trumpet, a choral work composed around 1921 and set to a poem by Edward Thomas, was orchestrated and edited by Philip Lancaster.

Elgar Sea Pictures Op. 3

Sea Pictures is a song cycle consisting of five songs written by various poets set for contralto and orchestra. Elgar composed the piece on his 1844 Broadwood Square piano whilst residing at Birchwood Lodge, Great Storridge in Herefordshire.

The songs were originally written in high keys for a soprano voice, but transposed to lower keys for the orchestral version, largely at the request of the contralto Clara Butt.

The première was on 5 October 1899 at the Norwich Festival with Elgar himself conducting and Clara Butt singing, dressed as a mermaid!

Finzi Intimations of Immortality

A series of tragedies profoundly affected Finzi in his early years. His father died just before his eighth birthday, and by the time he was eighteen he had lost his three elder brothers and his much-loved teacher, Ernest Farrar, who was killed in action. This dreadful sequence of events, and the appalling losses of the First World War that formed the backdrop to his adolescence, gave Finzi an acute awareness of the impermanence of life which may well explain the underlying hint of melancholy in his music, heard particularly in the Ode Intimations of Immortality.

First performed at the Three Choirs Festival, Gloucester, in September 1950, conducted by Herbert Sumsion, it is one of Finzi’s most substantial works and is scored for full orchestra, tenor solo and chorus. Wordsworth’s Ode, subtitled ‘from recollections of early childhood’ is a lament for the lost joys and intuitive wonder of childhood.
