Mozart Symphony No 38 (Prague)

Written in late 1786 the symphony was premiered in Prague in January 1787 to a City that supported and understood him in contrast to the neglect he suffered in Vienna. Mozart was consistently popular with the ‘Bohemians’ with a devoted following in Prague, and this symphony was written in gratitude for their high esteem.

Mozart Mass in C minor

Originally entitled the ‘Grosse Messe in C minor’ this mass setting is one of Mozart’s major works. Premiered in 1783 in St Peter’s Abbey, Salzburg as part of a Roman Catholic Mass, Mozart’s wife Constance performed the soprano solos with members of the ‘Hofmusik’, musicians employed at the court of Salzburg's ruler, Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo.

The work was never completed, missing sections of the Credo, Agnus Dei and part of the Sanctus, and Mozart would undoubtedly have spliced in movements from his previous masses for the premiere. Mozart later reused the music from the Kyrie and Gloria in the cantata Davidde Penitente K. 469.
