Three Choirs Festival Youth Choir

Three Choirs Festival Singers

A new choir is being formed – The Three Choirs Festival Youth Choir

We are seeking bright young singers to form an exciting new choir. If you are between 16 and 25 years of age we welcome you to audition.

Why is another choir being formed?

In order to ensure the development of young singers and to ensure the continuance of the British Choral tradition, the idea of a Three Choirs Festival You Choir has been conceived. It will draw its main membership from the area between Bristol and Birmingham. This information and application pack is provided so that you can apply to become a founder member of the new TCF Singers and become part of the history of the Three Choirs Festival. The first concert is already scheduled to take place in Tewkesbury Abbey on Friday 13th August 2010 at 2.30pm. Rehearsals weekends are planned and the music will be Bach’s Magnificat and Handel’s Coronation Anthems, all we need now is the choir!

History

For nearly three hundred years the Cathedral cities of Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester have taken it in turns to host an annual ‘music meeting’, this is now recognised as one of the world’s greatest classical choral music Festivals. The original performers were the three Cathedral Choirs, but over the years the style of the Festival has changed and the large-scale choral repertoire at today’s concerts is now performed by the Three Choirs Festival Chorus with the daily services sung by the Cathedral Choirs. This heritage has long established the Festival as a firm fixture in the British music calendar and a must-visit for lovers of the great choral works from across Britain, Europe, America and Australasia.

Although the Festival has a rich musical heritage, it is a modern and accessible festival experience. While classical and choral music can potentially be perceived as an art form that can only be enjoyed by certain sectors of society, we, at the Three Choirs Festival, believe that it can be enjoyed by all. Three Choirs Festival performances are enjoyed by Festival attendees of all ages. We encourage concert attendees to take great joy and delight from our performances, and to display that delight exuberantly! Bring your friends along to see you perform wonderful music in outstanding venues.

If you thought you knew what the Three Choirs experience was like and believed that it wasn’t for you, we urge you to think again - the scope of the 2010 Festival will surely encourage you to take the plunge!

Auditions will take place in Gloucester on January 2nd and 4th and rehearsals will be at the John Masefield School in Ledbury on April 10th/11th and July 24th/25th.
