In order to ensure that the festival continues to attract younger singers, the Three Choirs Festival Youth Choir was set up at the Gloucester Festival 2010 for young singers aged 16 to 25. The choir achieved the accolade of being awarded an ‘Inspire’ mark from the Cultural Olympiad, which denotes an outstanding project that will contribute to the lasting legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Their debut concert took place in Tewkesbury Abbey on the afternoon of Friday 13 August 2010, when they performed Handel’s Zadok the Priest, Water Music (Suite No 2 in D) and My Heart is Inditing, and Bach’s Magnificat, accompanied by the Corelli Chamber Orchestra to a full house.

At the 2011 festival in Worcester, they delighted the cathedral audience of over 1,100 people with their rendition of Beethoven’s Mass in C, accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra. Roderick Dunnett’s review of the concert can be found here.

At Hereford they will be singing Fauré’s Requiem and the world premiere of a new piece by Dobrinka Tabakova, accompanied by the Orchestra of the Swan and conducted by David Hill.
