Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem

Brahms was moved to write his German Requiem by the death of his mother. He uses a Lutheran text rather than the usual Latin one to focus on comforting the grieving and considered it a "human Requiem". It is preceded in the last concert of the festival by Parry's richly radiant expression of admiration composed after Brahms' own death, and Vaughan Williams' romantically optimistic vision of an adventurous future.
