A multi-ethnic, multi-faith spiritual musical event.
Performed by community choirs and instrumentalists drawn from throughout the region and beyond. Led and conducted by Michael Deason-Barrow.
Song of the Earth provides an opportunity to sing an extraordinary range of global sacred music from songs that express a yearning for union with the divine to choral music that will simply bring about an overwhelming sense of peace and serenity.This stunning collection of music will include:
• Sacred Chants: Irish, Native American and Byzantine sources
• Sacred Music from Around the World: Georgian, Indian, Balinese and Hebrew
• African Songs of Jubilation: ‘Sanctus’ from the Missa Luba
• Spirituals and Gospel Harmonies
• Contemporary Sacred Music:Tavener
The music will be sung from different locations in the cathedral, and instruments such as bronze gongs and bells, tam-tams, tone harps, psalteries, bowed instruments and huge drums will accompany the performance.
