there has been a specific charity, supported by the donations of those attending the
Festival.
Its object has traditionally been connected with the needs of clergy families, particularly widows and orphans.
In recent times more adequate state and church provision for widows and orphans has lessened the need for this particular aspect of charity. However, clerical families are not immune from the hazards of debt, difficulty and marital breakdown, and since the families live in tied property special problems often arise which need rapid solution.
The charity is still focused on the needs of clergy families, but its scope is now widened and each Dean and Chapter are entrusted with seeing that their share is used within their diocese for such special needs. The collections at each festival are still equally divided between the needs of the three dioceses.
It is usual for a collection to be taken at each choral service and after the final concert. We commend this to you and invite your generous support when you visit the festival.
