Elgar The Kingdom
The Kingdom was composed at Plas Gwyn, Elgar’s home in Hereford. Its quality led his close friend Frank Schuster to confide to Sir Adrian Boult that, compared to The Kingdom, he considered The Dream of Gerontius to be the work of a raw amateur. While many would no doubt question that assertion, there can be no denying that The Kingdom is one of the crowning glories of the English oratorio tradition.
Geraint Bowen conductor, Judith Howarth soprano, Catherine Wyn-Rogers mezzo soprano, Adrian Thompson tenor, Roderick Williams baritone.
THE COLMORE CONSORT (EVENT 6) This acclaimed chamber choir performs motets and part-songs by Parry, Howells, Finzi, Vaughan Williams and others |
