Tonight’s orchestral concert opens with the suite from Janácek’s fascinating opera The Cunning Little Vixen. It continues with Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No 1, originally written for Mstislav Rostropovich, while Ralph Vaughan Williams’ superb Fifth Symphony brings the evening to a dramatic conclusion.
